Alt NYC From A Man's Perspective

Though Alt primarily draws women and bloggers—and I'm neither—I nevertheless found the event inspiring and engaging. Being around so many talented, spirited, and entrepreneurial people was good for my creative soul. People attending Alt are bold and brave, and more than just dreamers these are people who actually follow their dreams.

Attending Alt left me feeling that if so many people can do what they love and make a living at it, we can too.

I'm a photographer and filmmaker, and my wife produces Classic Play (classic-play.com). Attending Alt together meant that we could meet with sponsors about working on projects together. The sponsors are very motivated to talk about ideas and collaborations. Attending Alt presents you with a very unique opportunity to meet with big, medium, and small brands that really want to collaborate. I can't think of another event like it.

Alt Summer Conferences: Be Ready

By: Sara Urquhart

The Alt summer conferences offer so many opportunities for building your business and your network. Be prepared to make the most of them with these suggestions.

1. Know what you want. You’ll get the most out of Alt by establishing clear intentions. Are you hoping to meet new friends, collaborators, or business partners? Looking for opportunities to contribute on other blogs? Hoping to connect with sponsors? Or just seeking inspiration and advice from the Alt community? Approach Alt with one or two goals in mind, and use them to guide your conversations and interactions.

2. Be flexible. Remember that great things often happen when we’re least expecting them. Be open-minded about unexpected directions or conversations, and you might walk away with an opportunity you’d never dreamed of.

3. Share openly, and listen well. Introduce yourself and your work with confidence and listen respectfully as others share their work and thoughts. Offer assistance, connections and introductions in the spirit of helpfulness that characterizes the Alt community.

4. Plan for success. Shortly after Alt, make an appointment with yourself (and keep it!) to review your notes and create a plan to implement your new ideas. All the great things you learned will serve you best when you put them into action.

Introduce Yourself Like a Pro

As an entrepreneur, you have to be your best representative for your work, your brand, and your projects, and that means introducing your business clearly and concisely. Whether you first meet someone in person or online, describing your work succinctly indicates your ideas are solid and informed, and that you’re an articulate, clear thinking professional.

Alt Summit NYC in Martha Stewart Living

By: Jenny Batt

There's less than a month to go and we're starting to get excited about Alt NYC. It will be our second event at Martha Stewart, they graciously hosted Alt NYC last year, and we're counting down the days until June 20th.

When we opened up our June issue of MS Living and saw Alt Summit had made Martha's calendar, we admit, we squealed in delight. Looking forward to seeing you soon! Thanks, Martha!
