Conferences 101: Say Hello

Networking at a conference like Alt should be at the top of your priority list for attending. Yes, you want to learn new information, but there is something so valuable and real about learning new information from a person right in front of you. That experience is now shared and those human connections can last far beyond the conference itself.

So, please, do say hello when you walk in the room. Introduce yourself when you sit down. Offer a tissue to someone who has been moved to tears (it happens!). Share these experiences for whatever they are and be your genuine self. You will make friends and chances are those are the people you will collaborate with in the future.

It is essential to find that balance between trying too hard and just having a good time. That balance might take a couple conferences, it might not soak in until a couple weeks post conference, but it is important to think about, to decide for yourself, and to settle into something that feels right to you.

Turns out, we have lots of advice about networking, so I have gathered some links:

Have any tips for fellow attendees? Write a blog post and send the link to so that we can share it and spread the love!
