Six Tips for Perfecting Your Social Media Content

Now that you've perfected your social media presence and actual business card, it's time to hone your craft. Here are the rest of Guy Kawasaki's tips from his Alt Summer 2015 closing keynote. For examples of each tip, be sure to watch what he has to say himself.

1. Perfect your slides.

When giving a presentation, you want people to leave believing that you are likable, trustworthy, and competent. The smartest way to accomplish this is to use 16 x 9  slides with a dark background and a 30+ sans serif font in bold. Keep in mind that photos and demonstrations are better than words alone.

2. Perfect your photos.

Photos tell the story to your entire audience, not just those who read every word written. Clear and beautiful photos will keep people coming back for more. Make sure that they are lit from the front, cropped to perfection, and horizontal or optimized for the platform.

3. Perfect your post.

Embrace the NPR motto and hand out quality content regularly. This will build your reputation for excellence and get people sharing what you feed them. In addition, always upload natively to Facebook.


4. Perfect your frequency.

Each audience is different, but experiment with what works for yours. Try posting frequently, try re-posting the same content over 24 hours, and keep trying until you hit a sweet spot.

5. Perfect your pin-ability.

It seems as though Pinterest is becoming the new Google, so optimizing the space effectively is a must. Make sure that you know what pops up when the pin button is pushed.

6. Perfect your practices.

Social media is not a science, it is an art. Keep practicing, keep working at it, and keep experimenting.
